IN MEMORIAM II

IN MEMORIAM

Jose Abraham Rivera, Jr.
July 13, 1943 - February 18, 2010

  1. Jose and Grace Rivera at the Rota Marines 2008 Reunion in San Diego California.

Dear Fellow Rota Marines, This is to notify you that Jose Abraham “Chico” Rivera passed away on February 18, 2010, after a very hard and long battle with cancer at his home in Bridgeport, Connecticut. At this time we have no information about arrangements. If anyone would like to send cards of condolences to his wife and family please send them to: Mrs Jose A. Rivera (Grace). Home Address: 340 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, Ct. 06604. Phone: (203) 576-1272. Angel Moreno.

Dear Fellow Rota Marines, Chico will be laid to rest on Monday the 22nd. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. I'm going to Chico's house tomorrow to see his wife and family with Pete Alvarez and Bob Seldomridge. When I find out the name of the  funeral parlor I will let you know. Thank you for the great piece you wrote about Chico. SF. Lou Onofrio.

Dear Fellow Rota Marines, At 6 PM on Sunday Feb.21 the Marine Corps League will perform a service for Chico at the funeral parlor that will be live on their website.

Rest in peace, Marine. Mike Foley.

Chico always treated me with courtesy and respect when we were stationed at the Marine Barracks in Rota, Spain. I shall always remember him for being one squared-way Marine and a very good person. I regret not being able to see him at our Rota Marines reunions these past two years. Rest in peace, Marine. You shall be missed. Angel Moreno.

Chico was my closest friend in the Marine Corps. I was always in contact with him throughout the years. Semper Fi. Tom Scanlon.

What a good friend and Marine. He was a gentle soul. The world is a lesser place with his passing. Semper Fidelis, my old friend. Top Davis.

It is a sad day. Chico was a great person and will be missed by all. John and Joanne Church.

Just learned of Chico's untimely death. Please keep me informed of what is going on. Larry and Ernie, I think you all have my address. Chico was always cool and calm. I do not ever remember him being upset about anything. Not even when the three women went to see Kennedy's grave at Arlington. He stayed with us until they showed up and got on the bus. He was going to give them "what-for," but he did not. Nice fellow. He will be missed at the next reunion. Take care everyone. Bill Rieger.

Angel. Thank you very much for making such a great page for my friend Chico. I appreciate it very much as well as the Rivera Family. While I was there they had received several cards for Grace and his sons (Jose) and (Hector). Thanks Again for all your effort for Chico. Tom Scanlon.

I did not know Mr. Rivera until he came to see my dad before he passed. For that I am grateful to him, Bob Seldomridge, Lou Onofrio and Peter Alvarez for taking the time to come see him. May peace be with Mr. Rivera's family and friends. Just so everyone knows he and my dad are having a beer and looking down on us laughing because they are going back to ROTA without us. Take care and Semper Fi. Margaret Mary Hinkle.
