NOVEMBER 21, 2011. COLA Bill Goes to the President. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the 2012 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for veterans receiving compensation for service-connected disabilities. The COLA also affects the rates for military retirees, Social Security recipients, and the dependency and indemnity compensation for survivors of veterans who died as a result of service. Although Congress has passed a COLA every year for veterans since 1976, there has not been an increase in the rate since 2009. The 3.6% COLA increase will go into effect on December 1, 2011, once the legislation is signed into by law by the President.

OCTOBER 5, 2011. Dear Rota Marines, sad to say several Rota Marines and I will not attend the 2011 reunion in Beaufort. Serious health issues prevent us from traveling. Please pray for the speedy recovery of all the Rota Marines with serious health problems.

We are getting too many bounce-back emails telling us that your email address is incorrect, rejected, or not listed. Also make sure that our return email address is listed in your Address Book so that our emails to you do not land in your SPAM folder. Thanks.

JUNE 6, 2011. To all veterans of the Cold War, let us support S.402 (COLD WAR SERVICE MEDAL ACT OF 2011) introduced in US Senate By Senator Olympia Snowe. For more information on this important legislation go to the COLD WAR VETERANS website.

DECEMBER 1, 2010. The following information concerning veterans. Please pass this along and check out the website that closely resembles a VA site. People could fall for this easily. An organization called Veterans Affairs Services (VAS) is offering benefit and general information on VA and gathering personal information on veterans. This organization is not affiliated with VA in any way. VAS may be gaining access to military personnel through their close resemblance to the VA name and seal. Our Legal Counsel has requested that we coordinate with DOD to inform military installations, particularly mobilization sites, of this group and their lack of affiliation or endorsement by VA to provide any services. In addition, GC requests that if you have any examples of VAS acts that violate chapter 59 of Title 38 United States Code, such as VAS employees assisting veterans in the preparation and presentation of claims for benefits, please pass any additional information to: Department of Veterans Affairs Office of General Counsel. I also did the above to prevent Phishers from harvesting my website email addresses, and to stop SPAMMERS from flooding my website and personal mailboxes with unsolicited emails and SPAM. Because of my heavy website work schedule I only accept official emails generated through my websites and one-to-one personal emails. So please give this old Leatherneck a break and remove my website and personal email addresses from your Forward Email mass mailings. NOVEMBER 21, 2010. Please STOP forwarding those so-called motivational, inspirational, patriotic, religious, political and ideological emails to me. I do not forward these types of emails even if I agree with their content. I do not want my name and email addresses circulating around the world in millions of unsolicited emails. My official website and personal mail boxes are being flooded with unsolicited emails; many of these emails are multiple copies of the above mentioned emails. So please cut this old Devil Dog some slack and remove my website and personal email addresses from your Forward Email mass mailings. NOVEMBER 18, 2010. It takes teamwork to make our reunions a smashing success. We must all do our part to help muster the the troops for the Rota Marines 2011 Reunion. I created this website to help Marines who served with a Marine Security Guard Detachment throughout the world who are looking for their buddies. OCTOBER 22, 2010. I added a link to the Devil Dog Dispatch. This website is a descendant of the Lost Buddies website that I created in 2003, in the now defunct (and now owned by AOL) Netscape Navigator. I started the Lost Buddies website to look for Marines who served with me in Boot Camp, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Marine Barracks in Rota, Spain, and the Vietnam War.
